Aim
This mural was developed as part of the QCAD LiveArt program in collaboration with Queensland Rail, which allows students the opportunity to design and present a large-scale artwork for Goodna Train Station to Queensland Rail. The brief, set by Queensland Rail was to design a bright mural on the 2 panels inside the underpass, that would reinvigorate Goodna Station and showcase our creative practice.
Solution
My design, Passing Through, which was selected for installation, aims to capture the vibrant tapestry of human connection within Brisbane’s transit network. The mural celebrates the collective rhythm of daily commuters—their diverse stories intersecting as they travel, pause, and move through these shared spaces.
Through simplified, overlapping forms, the design visualises these intersecting journeys. Bold colours loosely drawn from Goodna’s native landscape ground the work in place and individuality, while the rhythmic interplay of shapes reflects our shared experience of movement through urban space.
The resulting pattern highlights how we are each following our own path while contributing to the larger dance of city life. The mural transforms the station into a celebration of community in motion, honouring the energy and diversity that make Brisbane’s stations pulse with life.
